Molton breathable or waterproof?
Breathable molton (0808301, 0808302, 0808422) is the choice for everyday use: absorbent, soft, boil-proof up to 95 °C, without coating. Waterproof molton (0808315, 0809600, 0809720) has a thin, breathable membrane on the underside and reliably protects the mattress for children, incontinence, pets, or in care. For toppers up to 12 cm, there is the suitable topper pad (0808316), as an alternative for dressing the molton fitted sheet.
Sizes and fit
The pads are available for single mattresses 90–100x200 cm, 120x200 cm, double beds 140–160x200 cm and large beds 180–200x200 cm, plus children's sizes up to 70x140 cm. All-around elastic or corner elastics hold the pad on the mattress; over it goes the normal fitted sheet in the right size. Which pocket depth your mattress needs is explained in the guide Choosing the right pocket depth.
Care
Breathable molton is boil-proof up to 95 °C and suitable for tumble drying; the waterproof variants are washed at 60 °C and gently dried so that the membrane remains sealed. No fabric softener, it reduces the absorbency. More about this in the guide Washing and caring for mattress protectors.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a mattress protector and a mattress pad?
In everyday use, both terms are used for the same product: a washable protective layer between the mattress and the sheet. A mattress protector protects the mattress, a pad can additionally change the lying feeling. Our molton products do both: protect and provide a soft layer.
Is molton waterproof?
Only the variants with coating (0808315, 0808316, 0809600, 0809720). Classic molton without coating is absorbent and breathable, but not waterproof.
How hot can you wash molton?
Uncoated molton is boil-proof up to 95 °C, ideal for house dust mite allergies. Coated pads tolerate 60 °C.
Do you put the molton under or over the fitted sheet?
Under the fitted sheet, directly on the mattress. This way it protects the mattress, and the sheet remains easy to change as usual.
Molton mattress protector or molton underlay, what is the difference?
None. “Molton underlay” is the term from children's beds and care, “mattress protector” from the bedding trade. Both are the brushed cotton pad that goes on the mattress.
What size do I need for the molton pad?
The mattress size, not the bed frame. For two single mattresses in a double bed, two pads in 90–100x200 cm, for a continuous mattress, one pad in 140–160 or 180–200x200 cm.
Which mattress protector for house dust allergy?
Boil-proof molton (95 °C), washed regularly, significantly reduces mites and their residues. More in the guide Mattress protection for house dust allergy.
