German bed sizes explained: which bedding fits your US bed
German bedding comes in metric sizes, and German beds are made differently: most German couples sleep under two single duvets instead of one shared comforter. This page shows which biberna size fits your bed in the USA – and what does not fit.
Duvet covers: German sizes vs. US comforters
A German duvet cover is made for a German duvet (Bettdecke). US comforters and duvet inserts are much wider and will not fit into a German cover. If you brought your duvet from Germany, simply pick the size printed on its label.

For comparison: a US Full/Queen comforter measures about 90 x 90 in (229 x 229 cm), a King about 106 x 90 in (269 x 229 cm). These are too large for any German duvet cover.
Pillowcases: German pillows are square

US Standard (20 x 26 in), Queen (20 x 30 in) and King (20 x 36 in) pillows are about 51 cm wide. They do not fit into German 40 x 80 cm cases.

Why German duvet covers close with a zipper or buttons
German duvet covers are closed at the foot end, usually with a hidden zipper. The duvet stays in place, nothing slips out, and there is no need for a top sheet: in Germany the duvet cover is washed instead.
